Wal-Mart Benefits Americans
In the following viewpoint Karen De Coster defends Wal-Mart against some common accusations. Despite claims that the chain store drives down wages, according to De Coster, Wal-Mart's wages are not out of line with other retail stores. Critics also say that Wal-Mart drives out smaller competitors by keeping prices low, but De Coster contends that low prices are exactly what consumers want. In addition, according to De Coster, Wal-Mart retail centers offer consumers convenience, value, and an array of quality merchandise. De Coster is an economist, accountant, and freelance writer.
