Quick Overview

There are  different styles to choose from when citing your work, but check the assignment guidelines or ask your instructor.  These are the most common styles used:

A citation is needed when:

  1. You are using a direct quote taken from a source.
  2. If you are paraphrasing a thought/idea someone else had.
  3. When you are summarizing information
  4. Information that is considered "uncommon knowledge"
  5. You use an image, tweet, video, post, etc.

A citation is not needed when:

  1. You are stating YOUR opinion on a subject.
  2. The information you are using is considered common knowledge.
