Borrowing Materials

Who may borrow NVC materials?

  • All currently-enrolled Alamo College students.

  • All Alamo Colleges faculty and staff.

  • TexShare Card Holders.

  • Bexar County residents (NVC community members).

What do I need to check-out materials?

  • Students should use their current Alamo Colleges student ID.

  • It is not recommended that students use their Alamo College ID to check out materials for other students. All holds, fees and fines will be the responsibility of the student with the checked out items on their Library account

  • Please note, you cannot substitute a driver's license or other ID. The Alamo College ID is a vital tool for students who will use them throughout their time with the Alamo Colleges. These should be obtained  as soon as possible after becoming a student.

  • Faculty and staff should use their faculty/staff ID or a valid photo ID.

  • NVC community members are required to fill out a New Library Patron registration form and provide a valid photo ID.

  • TexShare Card holders should use their Texshare Card and school ID.

Where are books and other materials located?

The physical collection is located in the NVC Library-- first floor of the Redbud Learning Center. All books are arranged by Library of Congress Classification.

  • Circulating books are located on the tall book shelves in the middle of the library.

  • Reference books are located on the short book shelves between the Reference  and Computer Desks.

  • Print magazines are located on the short shelves next to the Cafe.

  • DVDs are located on the tall shelves next to the lake side of the library.

  • CDs are located in front of the study rooms.

  • The library also has thousands of digitized materials available through the online databases.  These include journal articles, newspapers, magazines, images, streaming video and more.

  • For AV items like DVDs and audio CDs, all parts must be returned. A charge of $10.00 will be collected for any item that is returned incomplete. Patrons may also have the option of replacing the item - check with the librarian on duty for details.

  • One Overdue Notice is emailed when an item is two weeks overdue. A billed notice is emailed at 28 days. Registration and Transcript holds are applied to patron records until item(s) are returned or paid for.
