Purpose of the Art and Displays Procedure

  1. The Northwest Vista College (NVC) Library art and displays procedure is a guideline for the art that is on exhibit in the library as well as any displays that are put up by NVC Library staff or NVC faculty or staff. 

  1. The art and displays procedure defines the purpose of the art and displays as they relate to the mission of the Library in support of the Northwest Vista College mission and vision. 

  1. The intention of this procedure is to make clear how art and displays are selected and maintained. 

 

Purpose and goals of the Art and Displays

Artworks 

  1. All art on display in the NVC Library is either part of the campus art collection, has been purchased specifically for the library, or is part of the student art exhibition collection. 

  1. The approved student art exhibition space is along the Quiet Area back wall.  It is reserved solely for exhibiting art created by students taking part in Art classes on campus.  

  1. The placing and removing of art on this wall is to be done by the Art department only. 

  1. There is no public area to display student artworks. 

Displays 

  1. Items on display are to support the library’s mission statement and to enhance student success and access to credible resources. 

  1. Displays may include books, zines, informational text, worksheets, coloring pages, bookmarks, and miscellaneous decorations.  

  1. Displays in the NVC Library are created and managed by library staff.  

  1. Final approval of any displays lies with the Library Director. 

  1. Displays will be created to coincide with library and campus events, current events, national holidays, seasons, student interests, trends, genres, cultures, monthly features and any other content in support of the NVC course curriculum and the NVC Library collection. 

  1. Materials on display are credible and reflect scholarly and well-researched viewpoints. 

  1. Materials placed on display do not imply NVC Library’s endorsement of any content or ideas of said materials. 

  2. Any questions or concerns about any art or displays in the library can be directed to the Library Director.
